There is so much to do folks! We've had a nice rest from our historic (yes, suck it, it was historic) march on 9/12, but it is time to dive back in.

As many of you may have heard this morning, the Senate Finance Committee (SFC), voted down a Republican amendment, along party lines, that would have required that the the SFC's health care reform bill to be posted online - in full legislative language - a full 72 hours before any voting could occur.

Yes, that's right. The Democrats, a part of the "most transparent administration ever," won't allow the American people, or the other Senators for that matter, the time to read and analyze the bill.

The SFC does not write the legislative language - this is a very important detail - they write a "conceptual framework" and that is what will be available for us to read. Yes, you read that correctly. The actual legislation which contains very important legal wording that does things like requiring people to have a government approved health care plan or pay a penalty tax can be written LATER, after the bill has been passed. This also means that the CBO cannot assess the costs as there are no details! The CBO can't do squat with a conceptual framework! It is so messed up that Congress can do this to us.

Oh and this is rich - the Democrats are saying that they voted the amendment down because it would have delayed a vote for weeks!! Oh no!! Goodness me! Delaying a vote for a few weeks on a bill that will affect 17% of the GDP and have the largest ramifications ever seen economically and won't even go in to effect until 2013 is just a preposterous idea!

While some measures may be enacted as soon as 2011, Avalere found that major assistance starts in 2013 for both House and HELP proposals. Some measures, such as eliminating the Medicare Part D donut hole, will take until 2023 to be realized.

How dare they allow time for writing the bill, reading the bill, debating the bill, getting input from the people they represent, analyzing the bill, and other really tedious and useless efforts! The Daily Kos is complaining about Olympia Snowe's support of this amendment and they also tip their hat as to why they oppose it:

To be clear, the Bunning amendment, which she voted for, would have delayed the Committee's final vote on the bill by as much as two weeks. Which would in turn delay the leaderships's reconciliation of the two bill, and which could also push Senate floor action on the bill past the October 15 decision-point on whether the bill goes through on reconciliation.

Aaaagghh. I see now. So delaying this monstrosity for two weeks will not allow the Senate to pass the bill that the majority of Americans do not want through the most sneaky, underhanded, un-democratic manner possible: budget reconciliation.

So what can you do?

ACTION ITEM #1 (more to come later)

Call the Senate Finance Committee Democrats and squishy Republicans

  • Ask them if they think the American people are too stupid to understand legislative language and demand that they reconsider the Bunning amendment.
  • Remind them that the bill will not take effect until 2013 and therefore you want them to do their jobs by writing the bill before they pass it.
  • Demand that they strike the individual mandates and any sort of public option including "co-ops."
  • Ask them if the bill addresses tort reform, deregulating insurance purchases across state lines, increases Health Savings Accounts limits, and other free market solutions.
  • Lastly - DEMAND that they go through the regular channels of passing a bill, meaning that budget reconciliation is OUT OF THE QUESTION.

I have only listed their D.C. offices, but if you have time, call their local district offices as well. For inspiration: here is what two of the Democrats said about the American people:

Said Stabenow: "Reading this bill will only confuse peple."
Said Kerry: “Let’s be honest about it, most people don’t read the legislative language.” He added that, in his opinion, the move to "score" the bill and post it on the internet for 72 hours so that the people could read it and contact their
Senators with their opinions was merely a GOP "delay tactic" to avoid passing any "real reform."

It's Official Now

Because I made a poster. Make your own here. Oh and this.

The Importance of Honduras

"La Gringa" is an American who emigrated to mainland Honduras in 2001. She speaks Spanish and provides updated information and pictures on the chaos that Zelaya has brought with him as he hides in the Brazilian Embassy and exhorts his followers to violence. If you want a front row seat go to her website here.

The importance of Honduras to the US is that it is an immediate lesson on where President Obama's foreign policy is leading us. While Honduras may strike some as insignificant and unrelated to our everyday concerns, it is a lynchpin in the Leftist/Communist coalition that is building in the Southern hemisphere. Once this coalition is forged, its ties to countries like Iran and Russia will make our security ever more tenuous. Karl Rove said today that Zelaya was progressively giving signs of becoming a problem, months before he was displaced as President on June 28, and that a more experienced, more focused Administration would have quietly taken diplomatic steps to head off Zelaya's more provocative acts.

Perhaps, it would have taken an Administration that had not developed an apparent liking for Chavez and Castro.

Obama and the Democratic Socialists of America

Via Michelle Malkin, an extraordinary collection of histories and information about the people surrounding Obama and working in his administration. Read it and weep. The article demonstrates the visible and obvious connections between Obama and socialists, specifically the Democratic Socialists of America (hey, at least they're democratic...).

Oh but wait, Dave Matthews said socialism isn't a bad word, along with warmness and respect, as though the three words are somehow remotely related. I love how socialists and pseudosocialists always say, "You people who hate socialism don't even really know what it is! Waaaaaaaaaaa!!" I find this funny because that's what I think about them. :)

So, I would like to ask any lefties or socialists that read this (I'm sure there are very few), what is Socialism?

Or to any capitalists that want to answer as well. What is socialism? What is capitalism?

It's feeling like an Atlas Shrugged kind of day today.

Quick Links

Obama's connections to ACORN, lest he forgets.

"The man who has run nothing more demanding than the Harvard Law Review is beginning to look out of his depth in the world's top job." Well, duh.

President Obama's agenda will produce a $13 Trillion deficit over the next ten years rather than the $9 Trillion advertised by the Administration.

But it's still overwhelmingly Bush's deficit/fault don't ya know... Obama's agenda "is responsible for only a sliver of the deficits..."

Wait, let's see that graph one more time.

How do you spell hypocrisy? U.N.

More on Honduras

Here and here. Let's pay attention when our friends need our support.

"Thought Leaders" and the Obama Administration's Breach of Ethics

Now I know why all the kids thought it was cool to vote for Obama.

As for "hope," let me say this: I hope that every single person in this country, and especially the artists, understand how dangerous it is for the art community to take the mantle of any administration in a coordinated, sycophantic way. As an artist myself, the thought of doing the state's work (i.e. propaganda) sickens me.

Where is everyone on this scandal??? This is huge!

I am shocked that this administration would have the audacity to attempt something of this nature so blatantly. Did they really think they could get away with this?

Make sure to read the whole article and all the accompanying articles/transcripts/histories/etc. in order to get the full magnitude of this scandal. I sincerely hope (there's that word again) that this would be an issue that everyone, from every side of the spectrum, could unite over. To the Obama supporters, please don't wipe this one away because you want to defend your guy. This was a total breach of ethics and it is frightening. If a President that I supported ever did anything like this I would be disgusted, and let's just say that I wouldn't trust him/her after something like this. Artists should not be used by the government to push any agendas, especially when many of said artists are receiving taxpayer money in the form of grants.

Again, this is called propaganda. State-run propaganda. What other countries use/have used this to further their agendas? None that any American President should want to be compared with.

Another Point of View About Glenn Beck

I found this article through Hot Air and I thought it was interesting, based on all the current hoopla surround Beck. The author asserts that Beck is not good for the Conservative movement as he is not really a Conservative. I think he makes some good points, and we should not be afraid to voice criticisms about the people we watch. I like Glenn Beck because he offers us information - accurate and verifiable - that no one else bothers to touch. I happen to think that information is an important commodity and so it seems very regressive and creepy to want to shut him up. That being said, I don't want "our side" to get complacent and refuse to analyze and criticize where necessary. Thoughts?

Young Democrats to Hold Anti-Glenn Beck Protest - Want to Rain On Their Parade?

Glenn Beck is coming through Seattle for a huge event sponsored by the Evergreen Freedom Foundation on Saturday, September 26.

Glenn Beck is from Mt. Vernon, WA.

The mayor of Mt. Vernon decided to give Glenn Beck the "keys to the city" in honor of the hometown boy making it so big. The ceremony is to take place on Saturday, after Beck's event in Seattle.

Skagit County Young Democrats have put together a petition to demand that the mayor rescind the keys and the honor.

Skagit County Young Democrats have organized a protest outside of the ceremony on Saturday.

Skagit County Young Democrats have also taken out a 1/4 page ad in the Skagit Valley Herald to advertise their protest and their anger. The ad text reads:
“The Young Democrats of Skagit County calls on the community to demonstrate against Mayor Bud Norris giving Glenn Beck the key to the city. The demonstration will be held outside of McIntyre Hall 2501 East College Way at Skagit Valley College on Saturday, September 26 at 5:30 p.m. PDT.” The message of the protests is, “Hate isn’t a Skagit Valley value.”

Aaahhh. Hate speech. I see. The YD's seem to think that Glenn Beck says hateful things and therefore should not be honored. This manufactured outrage is humorous because the YD's and others have yet to show any sort of proof or evidence of the alleged "hate speech."

All of this wasted energy and venom towards Glenn Beck provides us with a glimpse of the future should the federal hate crime/speech legislation pass and get signed into law. How? Well, these angry little hipsters haven't actually shown us anything to prove their accusations, but that doesn't really matter.

All it takes is the initial outrage... the accusations... the incessant media coverage... culminating in a visible and loud protest attended by weeping college students wearing their standard issue keffiahs, and speeches from representatives from all of the major, taxpayer subsidized "community organizations" that never explain how they use our money except to say that they promote the opaque and ill defined concept of "social justice," which turns out to be the sleazy mistress of collectivism and class warfare.

This is all they will need to indict, convict, and crucify Glenn Beck. And this is what "hate crime" legislation does. It allows an accuser to cry out with claims of any government approved "ism" of his or her choice, and then it is up to the accused to prove their innocence. Forget about innocent until proven guilty if it involves "hate speech."

For the record, I do not believe in "hate crimes" as I believe all crimes are hateful, regardless of the victim's race, ethnicity, religion, gender, job, etc. I also do not believe that we can legislate "hate speech" any more than we should be able to legislate any other type of speech. It is called the First Amendment in case you forgot, and it is there to cover ALL speech, especially the speech you detest, because someday your words may be the words that others will consider "hateful" and you will be the one they want to silence.

Which also means that the little YD's and their crocodile tears are free to protest the ceremony and they are free to advertise it in the newspaper.

It also means that we are free to counter them. If you want to make it a Glenn Beckerific day this Saturday, consider heading up to Mt. Vernon after the event at Safeco Field and stand up to whiny brats that are mad at Beck for exposing the many faults of their beloved Obamessiah.

Here is the info:
Where: Skagit Valley College McIntyre Hall
When: Saturday September 26th
Time: 5:00pm (1/2 hour before the anti-Beck protesters get there)
Info: Please, make a sign, get a piece of construction paper, keep it simple, make it bold and stay on topic!

I suggest signs that point out that their accusations are empty rhetoric, that free speech is protected as the very first right in the Bill of Rights (which they may have not read recently... or ever), and other similar themes.

My sign may mention something about the Salem witch trials as the pattern of accusations without evidence during that awful time are eerily familiar to the crusade against people like Glenn and Rush and Sarah.

Amercian Maggie

An article that I co-wrote with a friend, Rachel Hoff, about the march in D.C.

Venezuelan Holocaust?

For information about supporting Honduran Democracy click here.

Hugo Chavez. I have a theory about him. I think he has a wheel of fortune type wheel with pictures of oppressive dictators from the world's past, and every now and then, when things get boring, he gives it a spin.

It seems as though he has recently landed on Adolf Hitler. The Jewish population in Venezuela is rapidly decreasing as more and more Jews leave the country out of fear of what may lie ahead under the anti-Jewish and iron fisted rule of Hugo Chavez.
In recent years he has referred to Venezuelan Jews as "descendants of the same ones who crucified Christ" and "a minority [that] has taken ownership of all the gold of the planet." According to Shmuel Herzfeld, a Washington, D.C., rabbi who visited Venezuela in March: "Chavez is isolating the Jews and turning Venezuelans against the Jewish community. . . . The government is transforming a society that has been welcoming and accepting of Jews" in the past. Rabbi Bremer, who has lived in Venezuela for more than 40 years, says that he had never personally encountered anti-Semitism or heard of anti-Semitic incidents until recently.

There has also been an increase in verbal and physical attacks on Jews and Jewish institutions.
In January, the largest Sephardic synagogue in Caracas was vandalized and desecrated. Among the slogans painted on the wall was "damned Jews, death to you." A list of members of the congregation was stolen. In February, another synagogue was attacked with a grenade.

Chavez is cloaking his anti-Jewish fervor in pro-Palestinian rhetoric. He is obviously trying to make it appears as though he is only opposed to Israel as a nation-state and Jews that support Israel. However, his statements belie this assertion, and if anyone remembers history at all, we saw how Hitler used one or two small grievances to build up resentment, discrimination, and hatred against the Jewish community.

The Israeli ambassador has been kicked out of Venezuela and Chavez is demanding that all Jewish citizens renounce Israel. Add to this a paper published by a university professor complete with calls to boycott Jewish businesses and other frighteningly familiar acts.
In January, a professor published an article online calling on citizens to boycott Jewish-owned businesses and confiscate the property of Jews who support Israel. He urged Venezuelans to "summon publicly every Jew found in the streets, squares, shopping malls, etc. and force them to take positions, screaming at them slogans in favor of Palestine and against the abortion-state of Israel."

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom has put Venezuela on a watch-list as a country that threatens religious freedom. The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights has been asked to hold a hearing on anti-Semitism in Venezuela, and their decision is due out this month.

Catholics are also under attack by Chavez, but not to the extent that the Jewish community has seen - yet.

One Rabbi is quoted as saying, "I think we're in the early stages of something catastrophic."

President Obama, do you still insist on siding with the Venzuelan devil?

Show Support for Honduran Democracy Tomorrow and Learn Some History Today

Updated with more information about Alexy Lanza.

The Honduran Community of St. Louis, MO is planning a Freedom Protest on Tuesday September 22nd. Here is the information on the gathering per Gateway Pundit,

Followers of Peace and Democracy

Join us Tuesday September 22nd at 6pm to demonstrate against the Obama Administration’s Honduran policies and show the world our solidarity with the legitimate Honduran government.

Here are a few of the items we will discuss:

• We want the Honduran government to be recognized by the United States.
• We don’t want Honduras to become another Hugo Chavez Puppet Regime.
• Honduras wants peace and democracy.
• Honduras does not want to become another Marxist state.
• Honduras is defending their constitution and it’s not fair to be alianated.

Participants are asked to Bring Honduran and American Flags.

If you want to support Honduras but you don’t live in St. Louis, wear an arm band of white and navy blue ribbon to work or school tomorrow. When your colleagues and friends ask why, explain what happened in Honduras and what the US President, Chavez and Co. are trying to do to the country.

Five Stars on a field of white between two bars of navy blue-- this is the flag of Honduras. In its colors and simplicity, it is reminiscent of the Israeli flag and, like Israel, Honduras finds itself faced with implacable pressure from the U.S. Department of State.

Many of us who have watched President Obama link arms with Hugo Chavez, Evo Morales, and Fidel Castro with the aim of bullying the people of Honduras are probably aware that last week, on September 15, this Central American country marked it’s 188th year of independence from Spain. Obama chose to formalize the cutting of all non-humanitarian aid to Honduras, over the ouster of President Manuel Zelaya, just days before the Honduran observance of their Independence Day, an example of either cluelessness or a new spiteful brand of diplomacy.

It appears, however that the Honduras government is not close to breaking. Greta Van Susteren on Fox News recently interviewed the Interim President, Roberto Micheletti. In the interview, he explains that the efforts of the interim government to send a delegation to talk to US Officials in Washington have run into a “wall”. The President who will talk to and embrace our enemies and adversaries without preconditions will not talk to our friends.

GretaWire also has an interview with an American who has lived and worked in Honduras for about 7 years. He explains the lead up to the events of June 28 and why he supports the Micheletti government.

Redstate has an excellent article and commentary by E Pluribus Unum on the efforts of Hondurans to avoid being “Venezuelacated” (my term). He notes that Honduras-born, Harvard law graduate and former Assistant Solicitor General Miguel Estrada confirms that the Honduran constitution Articles on Presidential term limits cannot be amended. An English translation of the Honduras Constitution is here. See articles 4, 5, 42, 239, 272, 373, 374.

One of the puzzles about the US response to the events of June 28 is that Obama took almost immediate steps to align himself with Manuel Zelaya and the Chavez contingent of Central and South American countries. It was a little like Gates-gate: I don’t know know all the facts, but I’m pretty sure this was a military coup. (And don't bother me with facts like the Honduran Constitution - I hardly pay attention to ours!)

Maybe, just maybe, part of the answer lies, once again, in the ties President Obama has to the Chicago community organizers/activists. It certainly would not be the first time his Chicago ties have influenced his policy. (See the now-defunct relationship between the U.S. Census and ACORN; Obama's choice of advisors such as Valerie Jarrett and Rahm Emanuel; and his closer than close ties with Big Labor here, here, and here for a sampling.)

At the very least, there are ideological ties, and when we have an obvious radical and ideologically driven President, we must study the information available. To see the bigger picture, you have to step back into the history of Honduras which reveals that there are scores of labor and campesino (peasant) organizations in the country. The primary aims of the campesino groups have been agrarian land reform and included occupation of land “not being used”. One of the primary campesino umbrella groups has been the CNTC campesino organization (Central Nacional de Trabajadores Campesinos) which has affiliates in 14 of the 18 Honduras provinces. CNTC has ties to FUTH, a labor union federation described as “marxist” by the Library of Congress.

According to the Library of Congress, FUTH, with an estimated 16,000 members in the early 1990s, was first organized in 1980 by three communist-influenced unions, but did not receive legal status until 1988. The federation had external ties with the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), the Congreso Permanente de Unidad Sindical de Trabajadores de América Latina--CPUSTAL, and the Comité de Unidad Sindical de Centroamérica--CUSCA. Its affiliations included water utility, university, electricity company, brewery, and teacher unions, as well as several peasant organizations, including the National Central of Farm Workers (Central Nacional de Trabajadores del Campo--CNTC), formed in 1985 and active in land occupations in the early 1980's.

In about 1990, a young Honduran, Alexy Lanza, immigrated to Chicago. He started an organization, Comité en Solidaridad con los Damnificados en Centroamérica, founded shortly after Hurricane Mitch hit Central America in November of 1998. The CSDCA was organized to raise funds and collect aid for organizations and communities in Honduras that were not receiving adequate help from governmental and international aid organizations. La Voz De Los De Abajo grew out of the CSDCA.

On July 11, Alexy Lanza was interviewed by Labor Express Radio in Chicago in which he discussed the “Coup”. Zelaya’s…”more recent embrace of moderate social reform and a left turn in politics sweeping Latin America in the past decade, has won him the support of his country’s peasant organizations and labor unions and the wrath of the oligarchy” Alexy Lanza went to Honduras to report on the “resistance” called for by Zelaya. He interviewed several CNTC province directors on pro-Zelaya events.

On August 11th, La Voz de los de Abajo and other activists in Chicago joined in the International Day of Action Against the Coup with a letter writing, emailing campaign to demand from President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the Illinois congressional delegation that the US stop its de facto support for the de facto government of golpista Roberto Micheletti. More than 100 letters were sent to President Obama (some paper copy and some electronic); and email messages to Clinton and the Congressional delegation.

After actually reading the relevant parts of the Honduran Constitution, there is no doubt whatsoever that the Honduran Supreme Court and Legislature acted in accordance with their Constitution. This was not an "illegal military coup" Mr. Obama. How dare you take the side of dictators, thugs, Marxists, and other supremely anti-liberty and anti-freedom leaders in the world to oppose a legal and constitutional act taken by the Honduran government. Once again, it appears that President Obama’s administration’s policy is being guided by his proclivity to go with Chicago Community Organizers and Marxists over finding out actual facts on the ground and allowing any country, including the U.S., to follow their Constitutions.

(In case you are like Obama and have forgotten about the truly illegal military coup that Hugo Chavez perpetrated in Venezuela, go here and here for more information about his unsuccessful coup. More on Chavez soon.)
